With winter coming to an end, it’s time to break out your spring coats–or head to the store to buy a new one (or two). Here are the five spring jackets every man should have:
Sportcoat
We know you’ve already got one in your closet, but don’t be afraid to pull it out to top a casual outfit on a cooler-than-usual day. Paired with a T-shirt and jeans, a sportscoat looks up-to-the-minute awesome and takes your look from average to everything.
Denim jacket
James Dean, Steve McQueen, John Lennon–they all rocked denim jackets and looked damn cool as they did it. Follow their lead and take it one step further: You can top virtually any outfit with a denim jacket, from a T-shirt and jeans to a button-down and tie combo with dress pants.
Leather jacket
Just like denim, a leather jacket can be a stunning topper to virtually any look. Justin Timberlake has worn one with a vest and tie, as has Matt Bomer; Liam Payne hit the red carpet donning one over a button-down and tie plus dress pants. And David Beckham, aka one of the kings of fashion, is fond of wearing it on top of just about everything.
Bomber jacket
They were designed for the U.S. Air Force back in the ’50s, but today, bomber jackets are fashion-forward spring choices for both day and night.
Trench coat
Where’d they get their name? Turns out, trench coats were worn by British and French soldiers in the trenches of World War One – but you don’t need to go to battle to wear one. The perfect transitional coat, the trench will give you a good amount of coverage on a chilly day, but its material is still light enough for spring weather.
